Armchair Travel - Barging in Alsace-Lorraine France with Jim Lengenfelder and Emily Ray 2020

Join Jim and Emily and friends on a barge trip in northeast France. The area has gone back and forth between France and Germany for centuries and is a delightful mix of cultures. The canal route includes unique engineering--the deepest lock in the French system, two tunnels(one 1.4 miles long) and a funicular that lifts barges 120 feet vertically and replaces 17 locks. Defensive fortifications by Vauban, Louis XIV's chief engineer, are also highlights of this presentation.
